contractor's standard plates subject to the approval of the contracting officer. All attachments or removed
or disassembled for shipment shall be matchmarked for proper reassembly. The distributor and each
attachment shall be identified in accordance with the contractor's standard method.
3.20.1 Vehicle weight classification sign kit. The contractor shall apply the vehicle weight
classification numbers to each vehicle, using a vehicle weight classification number kit furnished by the
Government (see 3.29). The kit shall be located on the front of the vehicle in a location approved by the
contracting officer. The contracting officer shall assign the classification numbers to be displayed on the
vehicle. Instructions for changing the numbers, based on the vehicle configuration, shall be provided.
3.20.2 Case. The contractor shall furnish the fasteners and shall install the Government-furnished
case (see 3.29) in the operator's compartment.
3.21 Instruction plates. The distributor shall be equipped with instruction plates including warnings
and cautious suitably located and permanently affixed, describing any special or important procedures to be
followed in operating and servicing the distributor. Plates shall conform to MIL-P-514 or contractor's
standard plates subject to the approval of the contracting officer. Instructions for water distribution rate
(see 3.12) and for disassembly of the type II distributor into two sections and reassembly shall be provided
on cards, approximately 8-1/2-inches by 11-inches, which shall be encased in laminated plastic. One set of
these cards shall be furnished with each distributor.
3.22 Shipping data plates. Shipping data plates for each distributor shall be furnished and shall show
the silhouette of the distributor (and each section of type II distributor, only), indicating the location and
capacity of tiedown provisions, slinging provisions, extraction provisions, suspension provisions, the center
of balance and shipping weight. Plates shall conform to MIL-P-514 or contractor's standard plates subject
to the approval of the contracting officer. The plates shall be attached to the left side of the distributor and
shall show the locations as viewed from the left side. The plates on the sections, (type II distributors only)
shall be located in conspicuous protected locations. All plates shall be permanently attached.
3.23 Identification Marking. The distributor shall be identified in accordance with MIL-STD-130 on
an identification plate conform to MIL-P-514, composition C, of type I, grade A, class 1 material. The
plate shall be furnished and mounted by the contractor. A shipping data plate shall be furnished and shall
conform to MIL-P-514, type II, composition C, of type I, grade A, class 2 material and, in addition, shall
indicate the silhouette of the distributor in transport position indicating the center of gravity and location
and capacity of the slinging and the tiedown provisions. Each plate shall be attached by screws, bolts, or
rivets in a conspicuous protected location.
3.24 Treatment and painting. The portions of the distributor normally painted, internally and external,
shall be cleaned, treated, and painted in accordance with MIL-T-704, type F or G, as applicable. Unless
otherwise specified (see 6.2), top coat color shall be camouflage green 383 conforming to MIL-C-46168.
When specified (see 6.2), the distributor shall be overcoated in accordance with the Government furnished
camouflage patterns with MIL-C-46168 top coat of the colors specified in the camouflage patterns except
