MIL-D-52987A(ME)
b. Self-loading - Demonstrate the self-loading ability of the distributor for 10-tank fillings from a
water source, 10-feet below the center of the pump inlet.
c. Water distributing - Demonstrate the fan nozzle capability from all nozzles, distributing a total
of 10-tank fulls at maximum flow. Then, demonstrate the individual capability at each nozzle
to distribute water, 1/2-tank full at minimum spray pattern and the remaining 1/2-tank full at
maximum spray pattern. Manually rotate each nozzle 180° using common hand tools.
d. Water pump demonstration - Perform a demonstration of the water pump operational
capability for a minimum of 2 hours pumping water at the capacity rated by the manufacturer.
Correct all data to standard sea level atmospheric conditions of 29.92-inches of mercury and to
the specific weight of water (62.3-pounds per cubic foot) at a temperature of 68 °F and
compare with manufacturer's rating.
Nonconformance to 3.9, 3.12 through 3.15 or any malfunction or breakage of mechanical, hydraulic, or
compressed air components, evidence of leakage, inability of the pump to operate up to rated capacity or as
specified shall constitute failure of this demonstration.
4.5.2.7 Travel speed. The travel speed of the distributor shall be measured to prove conformance
to 3.9.1. Nonconformance to 3.9.1 shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.8 Braking system. The brakes shall be tested to prove conformance to 3.9.2. Nonconformance
to 3.9.2 shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.9 Stability. The stability of the distributor shall be measured to prove conformance to 3.9.3.
Nonconformance to 3.9.3 shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.10 Fording. The fording ability of the distributor shall be measured to prove conformance to
3.9.4. Nonconformance to 3.9.4 shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.11 Electromagnetic radiation. The distributor shall be measured to prove conformance for
requirements in 3.16.3. Nonconformance to 3.16.3 shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.12 DCA capability. The distributor manufacturer shall conduct the appropriate test procedure
to verify that the DCA harness is properly wired and free of errors that could damage the distributor wiring
and components or the STE/ICE-R vehicle test meter (VTM). All DCAs must be tested with a DCA
wiring tester or equivalent and be free of defects. Nonconformance shall constitute failure of the DCA.
Operational testing of the DCA and its capability shall be performed during the performance testing.
Nonconformance to 3.16.7 shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.13 STE/ICE-R interface. Test the DCA for all measurement specified in 3.16.7 using
STE/ICE-R. After completion of all first article testing, the test shall be repeated and the results compared
to the first test performed as specified in 4.5.2. Nonconformance to 3.16.7 or failure of any component or
