3.10.10.2 Instruments and indicators. The following instruments and indicators shall be provided:
a.
Engine oil pressure gage.
b.
Engine coolant temperature gauge.
c.
Torque converted oil temperature gage.
d.
Ammeter or voltmeter.
e.
Engine hourmeter or service meter.
f.
Air pressure gage (when equipped with air system).
g.
Low air pressure warning buzzer (when equipped with air system).
h.
Fuel level indicator (dipstick or gage).
i.
Hydraulic oil level indicator (dipstick, sight tube, or gage).
j.
Air cleaner restriction indicator.
k.
Low water level warning indicator.
Manufacturer's standard monitor package with supplemental gages as required, is acceptable in lieu of
individual gages specified above.
Additional instruments and indicators standard with the contractor's commercial practice, which contribute
to the safety and reliability of operation, shall be furnished. The instruments, indicators and their sending
units shall be weatherproof.
3.10.10.3 Controls. All controls for the distributor shall be located in the operator's compartment and
shall be within reach of the operator in his normal operating position.
3.10.4 Fire extinguisher. A fire extinguisher shall be provided and mounted in the operator
compartment so that it shall be accessible from the ground. The bracket shall be Coast Guard approved
and shall secure a 5 pound Halon fire extinguisher as described by A-A-1108.
3.11 Water tanker section. The rear water tanker section of the distributor shall be as specified herein.
The tanker section shall provide the volume and structure necessary for the capacity of at least
2500-gallons of water plus 3 percent expansion space. The payload weight shall be based on water at
8.3 pounds per gallon and 62.3 pounds per cubic foot. The tanker section shall include a coupler and
gooseneck, water tank, running gear, guarded water lever sight gage, hydraulically driven pump, plumbing,
and nozzles.
3.11.1 Tank. The tank shall be fabricated from steel of at least 1/4-inch plate and shall have the front
and rear heads welded into the tank skin employing either lap joint or ring stiffener design. The tank shall
include structurally reinforcing longitudinal and transverse baffle members to strengthen the tank and
restrict water surge. The interior of the tank shall be treated to resist the corrosive effects of air and water.
Drains shall be provided at the lowest portions of the tank and all plumbing components so that all water
can be drained by gravity to prevent damage during freezing ambient temperatures.
3.11.2 Manhole. The tank shall be equipped with a round or oval manhole opening not less than
30-inches in major diameter. A light weight, liquid-tight, easy opening, quick-latching manhole cover shall
be supplied. Hinged covers shall be hinged at the forward edge.
