Component and vehicle ratings shall be not greater than each manufacturer's published rating. Components
and equipment ratings shall not be raised to meet the requirements of this specification.
3.2.1 Type I. The type I distributor with rollover protecting structure/falling object protective
structure (ROPS/FOPS) removed shall be capable of being loaded and rigged on an air delivery platform in
accordance with MIL-STD-669, air transported and air delivered by parachutes.
3.2.2 Type II. The type II distributor with ROPS/FOPS removed shall meet the requirements
specified for type I (see 3.2.1) and shall also be capable of being sectionalized into 2 sections for external
air transport by helicopter. Sectionalization material may be removed for airdrops.
3.3 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection
(see 6.4) in accordance with 4.3.
3.4 Production equipment. All distributors of the same type furnished under this specification shall be
physically and mechanically identical to the first article distributor approved by the Government, except
that product improvements incorporated in the contractor's standard commercial product lines are permitted
at no cost to the Government subject to tire following:
a. Physical and performance characteristics have not been degraded.
b. New components involving Government selected repair parts are directly interchangeable
with the superseded component or part.
c. The Government is notified of all changes to any item on the recommended parts list where
fit and function is effected a minimum of 45 days prior to the production date of change.
When the changes and alterations have been incorporated in the production unit, the
Government shall be furnished, by serial number, the dates production becomes effective.
d. Appropriate changes are made to the Government validating operation, maintenance, and
parts manuals before delivery.
e. The contractor shall provide repair parts for the distribution over the service life of the
distribution.
3.5 Material. Material not specified herein shall be selected by the contractor and shall be subject to
all provisions of this specification.
3.5.1 Material deterioration prevention and control. The distributor shall be fabricated from
compatible materials, inherently corrosion resistant or treated to provide protection against the various
form of corrosion and deterioration that may be encountered in any of the applicable operating and storage
environments to which the distributors may be exposed.
